Reaper - Revised Box Art for Reaper - Season 1 Totally Overlooks Fan Concerns

Lionsgate doesn't want you to judge a DVD by its cover, we guess

In our most recent report updating you about extras on Lionsgate's November 4th release of Reaper - Season 1 on DVD, we mentioned that fans had been upset about the package art we previously had brought you, because of issues they had noticed with the design. Among them: the show's logo wasn't exactly correct, especially as regards the "tail" (you can see the version used in the show's opening credits at the top-right of this story; the one on the top left is used in The CW's promos/ads), and that two of the characters shown together on the cover hadn't actually been seen together so far in the series.

At that time we advised you to stand by, as Lionsgate had promised that a revised version of the package art was in the works. Well, it's here now, thanks to our retailer industry contacts, who received the update on Friday and passed it along to us over the weekend. We've got a look at it for you below, but we predict that the changes won't make fans any happier, as the two issues described above aren't addressed at all. Instead, the three changes we see are that the font style used on the cover goes from an "old English" type of style to a more plain "Arial" type of font, that the word "tools" has been replaced with the word "slackers," and that the spine has been re-arranged a bit to mostly make room for an ABC Studios logo.

In the end, fans tend to recognize that the content on the discs itself will be the most important aspect of this release, but it sure bugs the fans that the box art is not up to snuff on certain aspects of the show they've come to love so much. I'm personally waiting on this DVD release to watch the show for the first time, and from what I've seen I'll really enjoy it, so this isn't my own complaint, it comes from people who are already watching the show. And what they're saying makes me wonder: C'mon, Lionsgate, this is a currently-aired program; don't you at least run that art by the folks who produce the series? And if THEY signed off on it, well that would be an even bigger bummer, given the reaction of the fans!
