Anchor Bay Entertainment has announced that the two
ReBoot TV movies,
Daemon Rising and
My Two Bobs, will be coming to DVD on May 4th, 2004. These two TV movies comprise a very short 4th, and final, season for the series. The DVD will contain an anamorphic widescreen (1.78:1) picture along with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, and the disc carries a low SRP at just $19.98.
DVDEmpire.com and
Amazon.com are taking preorders for the disc already.
ReBoot was the first computer animated TV show when it aired in 1994. It ran for 3 seasons (39 episodes) before returning in 2001 with these tv movies (airing as 2 TV movies in Canada, but a series of 4 episodes each in the US).
The third season has been released on DVD by ADV Films, but no one seems to know who has the home video rights to the first two seasons. Anchor Bay has aquired the rights to the final season due to various deals that took place late last year. In December 2003, IDT Entertainment acquired Anchor Bay Entertainment Group from Handleman Company, and in the same month they aquired controlling interests in Mainframe Entertainment Inc, giving them the rights to release
ReBoot on DVD. I don't think this is the last animation project we'll see distributed by Anchor Bay either: IDT Entertainment has also acquired a minority interest in Archie Comics Entertainment LLC, and they plan to release some direct-to-DVD titles based on the characters. It's unknown at this time if that could also include releases of Archie TV shows which have already aired.
