The Rat Patrol is described
at the Internet Movie DataBase this way: "
Set in North Africa during World War II, this series chronicles the adventures of a 4-man team of commandos within the Long Range Desert Group...Armed with jeeps equipped with .50-caliber machine guns--and endless chutzpah--they wage a highly irregular war against Rommel's Afrika Korps."
This half-hour action-adventure series ran for 2 seasons on ABC starting in 1966, and had 32 episodes in the first season and 26 more in the second.
Now
DVDEmpire.com has a listing up for a DVD release of
The Rat Patrol - The Complete 1st Season! It's not exactly a pre-order listing just yet, as it doesn't let you do an advance purchase at the moment (it is more of a "notify me" type of setup right now). But it shows a release date of
January 31, 2006, the same date that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is also releasing
Archie Bunker's Place and a long-awaited
2nd Season of Diff'rent Strokes.
We don't expect the official Sony announcement to hit until a week from now, as this week Sony is busy announcing their 1/24 slate (which doesn't look like it contains any TV-DVDs, although the day is still young and more information could arrive later). But stay tuned, and next week we'll try to bring you additional information about
The Rat Patrol on DVD...a complete surprise to us, but a pleasant one nonetheless!
