Quantum Leap - The Quantum Leap 3rd Season Box Art: Really, We Mean It This Time!

First we posted the announcement for Quantum Leap - The Complete 3rd Season (streeting on May 10th). Then the next day we posted cover art for the set. The day after that, we took down the art at the studio's request. Wow, it's been a weird week for Quantum Leap DVD fans!

All this, and we still don't know yet if there are music changes on the 3rd Season set, like there were on the 2nd Season set (which fans objected to very highly!).

But we DO now have the final cover art for The Complete 3rd Season, and this ought to really be it this time! Universal kept their promise and sent it over special to us, and you can see it for the first time by looking below. At first glance you'll probably say, "Hey...it's the same!" Actually, it's not. Compared to the previous shot, there are numerous (though subtle) changes: Sam and Al's faces are a lot less "goofy-looking," and are more serious. The clothing on both are color-corrected to look right, instead of being rather faded. The text across the bottom has been added. The year numbers shooting out of the vortex have been faded a bit, to blend in with the picture properly and not be emphasized quite so much. The pic of Sam on the spine has also changed to a better shot, plus the catalog number of the release has been added to the bottom of the spine, above the DVD logo.

It may not seem like a lot of difference at first glance, but the overall effect is to sharpen up the box to a degree that makes it feel more in sync with the tone of the show. Yes, Sam and Al could be "goofy" at times, but the previous shot of their faces went a bit far in portraying the show that way. We think this is an improvement, and can see why Universal prefered to get the previous shot out of circulation as much as possible. This is much better:
