ITV and AMC have been putting together a new remake mini-series of the classic '60s ITV series
The Prisoner, which is due to be broadcast later this year and is known to star Ian McKellen (
Lord of the Rings films,
X-Men films) as the new "Number 2". With that six-episode production in line to air by the end of this year, A&E has gone back to the original Patrick McGoohan-starring series from 1967, and is planning a 5-disc release of those original 17 episodes.
On high-definition Blu-ray Disc!
Amazon has set up
a pre-order listing over the weekend for this item, showing 884 minutes on 5 BDs, costing $89.95 SRP. Content isn't described, but Amazon's listing mentions "Aniv", leading us to believe it may have the same material included as A&E's 2006 DVD release of
The 40th Anniversary MegaSet (
listing).
The release date shown is
October 27th, and if you order it now you can lock it in for $62.99 as of this writing (discounted price subject to change without notice, at Amazon's discretion). No other details are available there at this time, nor from A&E, but stay tuned and we'll keep you updated just as soon as we can!
