Back in the second quarter of '03, Sony (then they were Columbia/Tristar) released
The Greatest '70s Cop Shows, a DVD with a single episode each from five popular police action/dramas from the disco decade. Each episode was the first weekly episode of their series (*not* the pilot), and
Police Woman was represented by "End Game."
And that's been the only DVD release so far for Sgt. Suzanne "Pepper" Anderson, played by Angie Dickinson for 4 seasons on NBC's hour-long classic cop show. But all that's about to change! Sony is preparing an announcement today for
Police Woman - The Complete 1st Season. The 5-DVD set will contain all 22 episodes from the 1974-75 run of the show.
It may not include the pilot episode, though, as it was a spin-off of the 1973 series
Police Story: that show's episode "The Gamble" featured Dickinson as "Lisa Beaumont" (and Bert Convy, not
Police Woman co-star Earl Holliman, played Dickinson's superior). Since this episode of
Police Story served as the pilot for
Police Woman, we may have to wait for a
Police Story DVD release to get the "pilot" for Dickinson's show.
SWAT fans will know what we mean: it was a spin-off of
The Rookies, and the "pilot episode" of
S.W.A.T. remains unavailable on DVD so far.
March 7th is the release date for
Police Woman - The Complete 1st Season. Video is 1.33:1 full screen, and audio is English mono. There may be other languages supported as well, but we're waiting on Sony's formal announcement to come through for details about the specs, info on whether the
Police Story pilot will be included, and any other extras which may be included (if any). We're also waiting on cover art as well. What we do know is that the SRP is $49.95 for this 5-DVD set (1063 minutes), but you can lock in a $34.99 advance sale price if you
pre-order it from Amazon. Stay tuned for further updates.
