Airing on NBC from '73-'78, this anthology series (based on the work of ex-cop turned author Joseph Wambaugh) became the archetype for many critically-acclaimed cop shows that followed-including "Hill Street Blues," "NYPD Blue," and "Homicide: Life on the Streets." With no regular cast, the show rotated actors and further distinguished itself from its predecessors by its multidimensional portrayal of its protagonists. Its gripping episodes took on difficult issues like police corruption and the stresses that can come with a cop's life.
Stars: Don Meredith, Scott Brady, Joe Santos, Robert Forster, Laraine Stephens. Notable Season 1guest stars include Jerry Lee Lewis, Lloyd Bridges, Dean Stockwell, Angie Dickinson (in the episode which spun off into Police Woman), Kurt Russell, John Forsythe, Smokey Robinson, Ed Asner, Vic Morrow and more!
