It's not too hard to find
Petticoat Junction DVDs really inexpensively right now, on the bargain shelves and in the bargain bins of all the big-name retailers. But, with all due respect to the companies releasing them, these are all 'PD' (public domain) releases of the show, each with the same small group of episodes, and with none of the elements remastered. Desperate
Petticoat Junction fans have probably picked up one or more of these discs, but have longed for an offiicial release from a major studio.
Well, we have it on very good authority that such a release is in the works right now!
The Best of Petticoat Junction, a 26 episode compilation with all elements supposedly remastered, is being produced. Details and release date aren't available just yet, but we'll have those when the time comes. Note that this is the 1963 "Hooterville" show which spun off the other "Hooterville" show, 1965's
Green Acres.
However, we're not sure if the studio in question releasing the DVD set is going to be MGM, as it was with
Green Acres, or if -
as the Internet Movie DataBase (IMDB.com) says - the rights are with Paramount through their sibling Viacom company CBS. We'll keep an eye on both studios for an announcement, and let you know either way. Stay tuned!
