Since the
recent announcement by CBS DVD and Paramount Home Entertainment about the
April 8th DVD release for
Perry Mason - 50th Anniversary Edition, we've gotten e-mails (and seen discussions in online forums, too) where fans are wondering if this special release will mark the end of season set releases for the classic series. As you know, CBS/Paramount has released the first two seasons of the show, in four "half-season" box sets that came out in 2006 and 2007. Fans are concerned that this upcoming "anniversary" release, a best-of compilation full of episodes taken from all across the program's nine-season run, might mark a change in the long-term release strategy for
Perry Mason. We passed along the question to the studio, and here is the response we've received:
"While there are no additional announcements at this time, the Perry Mason 50th Anniversary release in April does not at all change the potential for releases of subsequent seasons (the latest DVD release from season two arrived just this November). The 50th anniversary DVD is simply a great way to experience some of the most memorable episodes from the groundbreaking series and rich bonus materials."
As you can see, this is just an "extra" release, bringing the favorite Perry episodes and extras to the fans (sooner instead of later), which is in no way meant to indicate that future "half-season" releases are necessarily off the table. We're glad to hear that...and we know you are, too! The future of those releases, as before, will surely be determined by how well the previous sets are selling, so make sure you're up-to-date on your collection.
