Round DVDs, that is! Okay, if you liked that joke, then you'll probably love
Pee-wee's Playhouse, and - like us - can't wait for the
November 16 release date for its two DVD sets! These are the ones that Image Entertainment promised
back in June would contain "
the complete 45-episode (including 6 "lost" episodes never before released to home video) classic television series 'Pee-wee's Playhouse,' split between two box set collections ."
A nice reader (our readers are the best, bar none!) by the name of Case Gaines sent us a note this morning, telling us that Amazon.com - which had already put both sets up for pre-order a while back - had added new info and artwork to accompany those listings. Well, there's no doubt about it, Amazon's new info is very helpful for excited fans waiting on these. Here's what they say:
- Pee-wee's Playhouse Volume #1 contains both Seasons 1 and 2, and it has an SRP of $49.99 (though you can pre-order it now for just $34.99).
- Pee-wee's Playhouse Volume #2 contains Seasons 3, 4 and 5, and it also has an SRP of $49.99 (and you can pre-order it currently for just $34.99 as well).
On top of that, Amazon had added the following artwork to these listings. They *might* be the finished designs, but to us they look more like they're early temp art perhaps, and not the final version. Still, we'll show you what's there, and if Image changes it then we'll be sure to update you:
No word on extras quite yet, but we're really not expecting any for these initial sets. Image's original press release told us that "
Image, with the full cooperation and participation of 'Playhouse' creator and star Paul Reubens, also plans to release in 2005 a definitive, specially packaged limited edition containing all 45 episodes with commentary by Paul Reubens and additional bonus material culled from Reubens' vast show archives. " So anyone who wants the special material coming on that version, avoid the double-dip and just wait for next year's upgrade.
