Back in June 2004 we
posted the press release that first announced the plans for DVD releases of
Pee-wee's Playhouse, starring Paul Reubens (lately seen on ABC's popular new show,
Pushing Daisies). One of the announced packages was a "
a definitive, specially packaged limited edition containing all 45 episodes with commentary by Paul Reubens and additional bonus material culled from Reubens' vast show archives."
That package was originally supposed to be released in 2005, and when it did not show up as expected, fans were upset. In 2006
we passed along a report from the
Northwest Indiana Times, who interviewed Reubens and discussed a 2007 release of this long-awaited set. As we close in on the end of this year, it obviously never came about.
In
a new interview posted at MTV, Reubens has put the responsibility for the hold-up squarely on his own shoulders, saying "
It’s all waiting for me to go through the stuff and find all the special material." The article says that the Special Edition release is "still the plan" and describes some of the kinds of material which Reubens would love to include on such a release. Head on over there for all the details. Our thanks to reader "Charlotte S." for the heads-up about MTV's story.
