They laugh alike. They walk alike. At times, they even talk alike. What a crazy pair! But when identical teen cousins — boy-crazy Patty and demure Cathy — get together, their two very different worlds create nonstop laughter and fun. On September 29, Shout! Factory will release The Patty Duke Show: The Complete First Season, featuring all 36 episodes on DVD. Bonus features include a look back at The Patty Duke Show with brand-new cast interviews featuring Patty Duke, William Schallert, Paul O'Keefe, and Eddie Applegate.
The Patty Duke Show chronicles two ordinary teenage girls: the wild and carefree Patty Lane, who has a knack for getting into trouble and her Scottish identical cousin Cathy Lane, a shy, world-traveled intellectual who moves in with Patty's family to finish her high school education. Already an Academy Award(R)-winner (The Miracle Worker, 1962) when she was cast, Patty Duke was the first young star to have a television show named after her.
Created by Academy Award(R)-winning writer Sidney Sheldon (I Dream Of Jeannie), prior to his success as a best-selling author, and up and coming producer/director William Asher, who would go on to direct many hit shows including I Love Lucy, Bewitched, Gidget, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Patty Duke Show ran on ABC for three seasons, from September 18, 1963 until May 4, 1966. Available for the first time on DVD in a 6-disc set, The Patty Duke Show: The Complete First Season is priced to own for $44.99.
Guest stars in The Patty Duke Show: The Complete First Season include Frankie Avalon (Beach Blanket Bingo, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea), Charles Nelson Reilly (Match Game, Hello, Dolly!), Paul Lynde (Bye Bye Birdie, Bewitched), Jimmy Dean and Phil Foster (Laverne & Shirley), John McGiver (The Manchurian Candidate), John Spencer (The West Wing, L.A. Law), David Doyle (Charlie's Angels), George S. Irving (Underdog, the voice of Heat Miser in The Year Without A Santa Claus), Estelle Parsons (Bonnie And Clyde), Margaret Hamilton (The Wizard Of Oz), Roger C. Carmel (Star Trek), Don Scaradino (Cruising, He Knows You're Alone), and Jean-Pierre Aumont (La Machine Infernale,Gigi).
Whatever the girls are facing, be it a crush on a teacher, being blackmailed after a slumber party by a pesky relative, high school elections, or starting their own businesses, it's always entertaining.
