In September of 1970, a family of pop musicians burst onto the television scene!
The Partridge Family centers on a fatherless family of six who form a rock band and tour the country in their psychedelic-painted bus. The band's members include mom Shirley (Shirley Jones) and her five kids: oldest son Keith (teen idol David Cassidy), keyboardist Laurie (Susan Dey), bassist and get-rich-quick schemer Danny (Danny Bonaduce), and the two youngest Partridges, Chris (Brian Forster) and Tracy (Suzanne Crough). The family's frequently exasperated manager Reuben Kincaid (David Madden) rounds out the cast.
Third season musical adventures include Keith (Cassidy) causing an international crisis when he escorts a beautiful princess, Laurie (Dey) becoming romantically involved with a handsome young minister, Keith being cast in a Hollywood movie, Danny (Bonaduce) winning a racehorse who can't sleep, Ruben (Madden) trying to quit smoking, and Shirley (Jones) agreeing to date an old flame then discovering that includes his mother.
Top guest stars this season were Emmy® Award nominee Charlotte Rae (TV's "
The Facts of Life"), Slim Pickens (
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb), Gordon Jump (TV's "
WKRP in Cincinnati"), Emmy® Award and Golden Globe® Award nominee Nancy Walker (TV's "
McMillan & Wife"), Oscar® Award winner Jodie Foster (
Silence of the Lambs) and Golden Globe® Award winner Vic Tayback (TV's "
Alice").
The Partridge Family's success crossed over to the pop charts when several Partridge Family songs became genuine hits, including the theme "C'mon, Get Happy," which debuted during this second season, and the number one hit "I Think I Love You."
The Partridge Family ran for four seasons on ABC and was nominated for five Golden Globe® Awards, including one for Best Musical/Comedy.
