For those of you who missed the original (and sometimes hard-to-find)
Season 1 and
Season 2DVD releases in 2002/2003 of the first
Outer Limits show, MGM has been re-releasing those episodes from the '60s on three different DVD volumes this Summer and Fall:
The pre-shipping-fee cost added up for all three, if you buy them right now through those Amazon links above, is $67.97. The first volume came out on June 5th, and the second volume just recently hit on August 28th. The third and final volume, completing the run of the original series, is set to ship on
October 30th. But Borders has decided that you shouldn't have to wait...IF you don't mind spending a few dollars more.
Borders is currently selling
Outer Limits - The Complete Original Series: Volumes 1-3 exclusively at their stores. Apparently they've been stocking this since the end of July, but we've only been able to personally verify it these past few days. To do that, I ended up going to the local store, which finally had it in stock, and taking a picture of it with my cellphone (see below). I tried taking pictures of the back of the box, too, but they all came out blurry. As you can see, this is a 6-"thinpak" set with the thinpak disc-holding cases inside a nice-looking holographic sleeve. It's marked with a big sticker telling you that these are only available while supplies last. You also can see the price tag of $89.99, but right now - as of this writing, anyway - the set is on sale for 20% off. I'm not sure when this sale ends (the salesperson was a bit upset with me for taking the pictures), but at the moment you can pick this up for $71.99 on sale.
Our thanks to reader Nancy Nivling, who first told us about this set, and has been patient with us while we worked to get it verified. Here's a look at the box:
