Oban Star-Racers - Complete Title, Date and Cost for DVDs of this GORGEOUS Animated Series

In the not-too-distant future, Earth has recovered from a war, a narrow victory over the invading Crogs. Life goes on, and race manager Don Wei is under a lot of pressure as his team gets ready for the grand prix. Little does Wei know that his new mechanic, "Molly", is really his 15-year-old daughter Eva, who had been sent off to boarding school and forgotten, but has run away to be with him.

Then Wei receives a sudden visit from the President, who tells him of a not-to-be-denied invitation from the mysterious Avatar, for Earth to participate in the great Oban star-race! Wei is instructed to put a team together, and be ready to rendevous with the Avatar's ship at the appointed time. He quickly assembles the star-racer vehicles and their mechanics, ace gunner Jordan, and champion pilot Rick Thunderbolt. But a Crog warrior attacks at the last moment in an attempt to ruin the Earth's chances! When Thunderbolt is taken out of the pilot's seat, "Molly" may be the Earth's only hope of being the winner among the Oban Star-Racers!

As we've reported last Fall, the Toon Disney series Oban Star-Racers is coming to DVD. The folks at Shout! Factory have teamed with Sav! The World Productions and Jetix Europe for the initial release, which will have the first 13 episodes on 2 DVDs. You can see a sneak peek of this BEAUTIFULLY animated series right now, since the first episode "A Fresh Start" is included on the fourth disc in Medabots - The Complete 1st Season (which was released the other day). I've just watched that episode, and I must say that I'm impressed!

Good timing, too, as I've learned this morning that Oban Star-Racers - Volume 1: The Alwas Cycle will release on April 22nd. The cost will be just $19.99 SRP, making it impossible to resist for me! And there are no worries about being left hanging, as Shout! is already working on the second DVD volume, with the remaining episodes, for release just a couple of months afterwards. We're still waiting on the package art for the first release, but perhaps the art below - which certainly hints at the breadth and scope of the show - can tide you over while we wait for the official box picture!
