Last July the folks at Shout! Factory and Jetix Europe
announced that they had reached a distribution deal for a DVD release in the U.S. for all 26 episodes of
Oban Star-Racers. Now we've talked with Shout! DVD Producer Brian Ward, who's seen these episodes himself and can't say enough good things about how entertaining they are. Comments he's made publicly are that it's "amazingly written and produced" and "the animation is beautiful." He truly believes that everyone needs to take a look at these, and he's pleased to be bringing them out.
Current plans call for an
April or May, 2008 release of
Oban Star-Racers - Volume 1, on 2 discs with half of the episodes, plus bonus material. Then a second 2-DVD volume with the remaining episodes (and more extras) will come out around a month or so later. Work is still being done: they are trying to compare the USA versions from Toon Disney to the Japanese and the French releases, and seeing what can be done to deliver the best DVD versions possible.
