Nowhere Man - Professional-Looking Box or Bargain- Basement Trash...Will The REAL Nowhere Man Cover Please Stand Up?

We've already shown you the cover art from the NowhereManDVD.com website, for the upcoming December 27th release of Nowhere Man - The Complete Series DVD set. And everybody we've talked to has loved the design. But now Image Entertainment's studio website is showing something different...and it's also appearing at retail websites like DVDEmpire.com. And our readers have noticed! Here at TVShowsOnDVD, we think the cover art seen at NowhereManDVD.com webstie is MUCH more professional-looking, and we certainly hope that's what's going to be used. The other one looks, to be blunt, like crap...like it belongs at the bottom of a 2-for-$10 bargain bin somewhere (or worse, something you would find at a bootleg site). Here's a look at both of them side-by-side; what do YOU think?

The one on the left (as if you couldn't guess, since it's so much better-looking) is the one that is from the official DVD promo site, NowhereManDVD.com (it's still there at this time). The one on the right is the one from Image Entertainment's main studio website. At this time, we're not sure which one is the one Image plans to actually use, but the one on the right is similar in style to they type Image puts out all too often. We hope it was just a prototype, though, that's been surplanted by the better artwork seen at the release's promo site, and we'll cross our fingers that it's a mistake that the studio site's webmaster was given the wrong thing. We'll check in and try to find out which one's which, and we'll let you know what to expect to look for on store shelves. Normally we would wait and try to contact the studio first, but with the art being distributed to online retailers (and our readers noticing it), we didn't think we should wait to post about the confusion. Hopefully we can clear it up very quickly.

EDITORIAL
All too often we see studios who over-think the DVD packaging (like many consumers thought Universal had with the original Battlestar Galactica and the upcoming Munsters - Season 2)...but far more often we see studios who under-think it. They throw together any old box cover that looks far too ugly, and embarrassing for consumers to put on their living room DVD rack and let their houseguests see. Oh yes, it IS the disc content that the fans should want after all...but why shouldn't the studios take a bit longer with the release and put it in a package that looks attractive and which any fan of the feature would be proud to own? It helps store customers to decide to make a blind purchase while walking the aisles. And after all, the studio wants that item to leap off shelves!...but it has to be noticable first.

If the better-looking art IS what's going to be used, then we offer an apology to Image right off the bat for our rant. Since Image also distributed the cheaper-looking art to retailers, though, we're worried that it is indeed the one they intend to use...although we can't imagine why. Here's a bigger-sized look at the Image Entertainment studio website art, followed by a bigger-sized look at the NowhereManDVD.com promo site art. What do YOU think?
