True to
the report several weeks ago,
Night Gallery has been announced for DVD release on
August 24th. Universal Studios Home Video is set to announe today the release of
The Complete 1st Season on DVD, at a $59.98 SRP for a 3-DVD set (possibly using double-sided discs to squeeze in 14 hour-long shows, plus *hopefully* the 3 different pilots as well).
We'll acknowledge that there are reports from good sources that these releases will not be newly remastered for DVD, but instead use existing video sources to create this set. The studio hasn't gone on record about this, but in the past the reason for decisions like this has been to keep costs low and make the release affordable for customers. We regret such decisions here, but we're confident that we can still get a product that's superior to watching re-runs on TV that are interrupted with commercials and have a station bug in the corner.
So, despite that issue, Rod Serling fans should be rather happy with this announcement, plus recent news about
Twilight Zone on DVD. However, the
Night Gallery news is still very thin on details. We hope to hear more from the studio later today. Whenever we do, we'll be back with updates. We're also looking out for cover art, too, so stay tuned.
