November 28, 2008 - Scott Skelton, co-author of
Rod Serling's Night Gallery: An After-Hours Tour talks about the classic 1970's horror series and his participation in Universal Home Entertainment's Season Two DVD release, on the Internet radio show
TV Time Machine (http://www.tvtimemachine.com), hosted by TV historian Jim Benson.
Mr. Skelton talks about the fascinating history behind this remarkable series, and the plethora of supplementary material included on the DVD release of Rod Serling's
Night Gallery: Season Two - which also includes an interactive feature for fans to access images of the paintings created for the series, and commentary by
Night Gallery artist Tom Wright.
"Season two is considered by most fans as being the best of the series," says Skelton. "And the paintings themselves are immensely important. They are by far the most interesting aspect of the show to many people, outside of the produced episodes. The fact that they are so important to the fans makes the interactive menu that allows the viewer to inspect many of them, extremely important to the release of the DVD set itself."
Rod Serling's follow-up to his classic anthology series
The Twilight Zone,
Night Gallery featured tales of the odd, the bizarre, and the supernatural. The series was a creative launching pad for several soon-to-be famous directors such as Steven Spielberg (who made his directorial debut on the series), and actors Diane Keaton (
Annie Hall), Lindsay Wagner (
The Bionic Woman), and Mark Hamill (
Star Wars).
On
TV Time Machine, Scott Skelton also talks about
Night Gallery creator Rod Serling, the genesis of the program, and behind-the-scenes anecdotes of Steven Spielberg directing Joan Crawford in the
Night Gallery pilot movie. Mr. Skelton also discusses such classic
Night Gallery episodes as The Caterpillar, A Fear of Spiders, Class of '99, and Rod Serling's Emmy-nominated They're Tearing Down Tim Riley's Bar.
A freelance critic of film, television, and music for more than thirty years, Scott Skelton has contributed articles to dozens of newspapers and magazines, is a historical consultant on Universal Studios' second-season DVD release of Rod Serling's
