James Garner is Nichols, the reluctant sheriff of a small Western town, in this quirky, offbeat series. It's 1914 and a violence-weary Nichols (Garner) has returned to his Arizona home after 18 years in the army. Forced into becoming its new lawman by the tough and powerful rancher (Neva Patterson) whose family runs the town, Nichols refuses to carry a gun as he takes on bank robbers, Apaches, con artists, banditos and more, armed with only his wits and his charm.
Costarring a pre-Lois Lane Margot Kidder as the local barmaid, Nichols was created by Frank R. Pierson, the Oscar-nominated co-screenwriter of Cat Ballou. Originally broadcast during the 1971/72 season and rarely seen since, Nichols: The Complete Series contains all 24 episodes, highlighted by "All in the Family," a game-changing tale with a unique twist!
The short lived Western Comedy from the early '70s, starring James Garner and Margot Kidder, is coming to DVD soon from the Warner Archive Collection. Slated as an MOD (manufacture on demand) release for September 10th
