A couple of days ago we brought you
Fox's official announcement for the
February 26th release of
Newhart - The Complete 1st Season on DVD. Now they've provided box art for this set, and we've got a look at it for you below!
One more thing first, though. We've gotten quite a number of e-mails from fans of Bob's TV shows, asking what this means in terms of further DVD releases of 1972's
The Bob Newhart Show. With 4 season sets already out, fans wonder if the final 2 seasons will make it. So we'll hold off the need for more e-mails like this and say that our answer right now is "we don't know." We're pretty sure, though, that the release of
Newhart isn't precisely tied to the situation with
TBNS.
Yes, yes: we realize that Bob himself was once quoted as saying that the later show wouldn't make it to DVD until all six seasons of the previous show were out. But if those were indeed Fox's plans, then it looks like they've changed. In all likelihood, though, the studio sees these as two different shows (that happen to star the same person): one was tried on DVD, and sales of the middle seasons didn't reach sales goals, so didn't support the release of the final seasons. The other show is simply a different one to try to sell on DVD, with high levels of interest.
The best way to get the final two seasons of
TBNS out on DVD, in our opinion (and no, Fox doesn't give us anything to say this!), is to support the previous four season set releases by purchasing them. If you don't have them all, then you can get them for $14.99 each right now
