#320: The Unearthly - MSTie favorite actor Tor Johnson costars as MSTie favorite character Lobo in this 1957 horror flick about a mad scientist (John Carradine) whose experiments with immortality accidentally produce mutants. As Dr. Forrester says: "It's hard to keep down." But Joel, Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot prove once again that laughter is the best anti-nausea medicine. Includes the shorts "Posture Pals" and "Appreciating Our Parents."
#619: Red Zone Cuba - Director Coleman Francis cements his status as unofficial MST3K muse with this 1966 film about escaped convicts who volunteer to fight in the Bay of Pigs. Needless to say, the movie was about as successful as the invasion. On the bright side, the riffs do destroy their target - although, as Crow T. Robot says, "I want to hurt this movie, but I can never hurt it the way it hurt me." And on the Satellite of Love, there's a "method" to Mike's impersonation of Carol Channing. Bonus Feature: Includes the 1949 short film "Speech: Platform Posture and Appearance."
Continuing the trend started early this year, the Shout! Select website is now accepting pre-orders for both
Mystery Science Theater 3000 - The Unearthly (episode #320) and
Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Red Zone Cuba (episode #619). Both will be available starting
August 16th, and are priced at $14.99 each (plus shipping and handling). The first one was previously available as part of Rhino's "
Volume 3" multi-disc set, and the second had been sold individually by Rhino in 2002. Both of those have out-of-print for some time, but now Shout! will make these two episodes available again as individual items sold exclusively at their online store. Below is a picture of the two new packages.
ALSO, our friends at Satellite News, the official
MST3K fan site,
reported yesterday that Shout!'s 4-DVD set of
Mystery Science Theater 3000 - XXII, which we
recently informed you has a planned street date of
December 6th and a cost of $59.97 SRP, will contain the episodes
Time of the Apes (#306),
Mighty Jack (#314),
The Violent Years (#610), and
The Brute Man (#702), with shorts
Young Man's Fancy and
The Chicken of Tomorrow associated with the last two installments. Good to know! Stay tuned for official studio info and artwork for that title, once everything is finalized.
