A couple of weeks ago we
reported on the details and box art for Rhino's
February 5th release of
Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Collection: Volume 10.2, which is really a re-release of the out of print 10th Volume. The original version had Episode # 212: "Godzilla vs. Megalon" on it, but due to licensing issues it had to be pulled. For the new version it is replaced by Episode # 402: "The Giant Gila Monster."
For fan that already own the original version of Volume 10, and don't want to re-buy the other three episodes in order to own "The Giant Gila Monster," Rhino had told end-users via their "Ask Dr. Rhino" e-mail program that they plan to make a single-disc version of that Episode 402 available as well. We tried to get in touch with the studio to find out their plans, but didn't get any responses. But our fearless friends over at Satellite News (the official MST3k website)
have the details, and have very kindly shared it with us!
The disc will only be available at the Rhino.com website, but will cost a mere $7.98 to purchase! As you can see by the square "box art" shown below, this is probably only coming in a cardboard sleeve, which probably helps keep that cost so low. It isn't on sale (or found at Rhino.com) yet, but goes on sale on
February 5th (the same day
Volume 10.2 is in stores).
Satellite News also reports that this is only available for a limited time, essentially until the first pressing runs out. They also say there is a possibility of a second pressing if the sales are very strong at first. This may be due to a limited amount of time before Rhino's
MST3K license runs out and
transfers to Shout! Factory.
Our thanks to everyone at Satellite News, especially Chris Cornell ("Sampo") for sharing this info and artwork, and also to Brian Hentry ("Erhardt") for also always being there for us. If you're an
MST3K fan, be sure to have their site bookmarked!
