With a total of 25 Gemini nominations to its credit, this sharp, sophisticated mystery series features Yannick Bisson (Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye) as William Murdoch, a Toronto police detective at the cutting edge of Victorian science. Together with a forward-thinking pathologist (Gemini winner Hélène Joy, Durham County), he applies revolutionary criminology techniques to crack the toughest cases. This season finds Murdoch making the acquaintance of H.G. Wells, teaming up a second time with Nikola Tesla, investigating art forgery, and using the fledgling science of psychology to out the era's most elusive murderers.
Guest stars include Patrick McKenna (The Red Green Show), Lisa Faulkner (Murder in Suburbia), Ashley Leggat (Life with Derek), Sarah Gadon (Being Erica, Happy Town), Dmitry Chepovetsky (ReGenesis), and Peter Keleghan (The Newsroom). Season 3 was nominated for five Gemini Awards, including best writing.
Acorn Media has announced that Murdoch Mysteries - Season 3 is going to be released in North America on May 3rd. It will be available on a 4-disc DVD set that costs $59.99 SRP in the USA, and CA$74.99 SRP in Canada. For the first time, this show will also get a high-definition Blu-ray Disc release on the same day, arriving as a 3 disc set priced at $69.99 SRP in the USA, and CA$86.99 SRP in Canada. Both versions run 624 minutes for 13 episodes, plus a Bonus Alternate Ending on Episode 13 ("The Tesla Effect") and also a 9-minute Behind-the-Scenes Featurette. The Blu-ray version's episodes (and some of the extras) will come with video in 1080p widescreen format, plus English 2.0 Stereo PCM (uncompressed) audio, and English subtitles.
