The legacy of one of television's most beloved and acclaimed series continues with 4 full-length Murder, She Wrote movies. Oscar-nominee Angela Lansbury triumphantly returns as mystery writer Jessica Fletcher, the iconic role for which she received 12 Primetime Emmy Award nominations.
In South by Southwest, a chance meeting on a train embroils Jessica with foreign spies and stolen government secrets. Then, a getaway to Los Angeles becomes deadly when she tries to solve the murder of a former Soviet KGB officer in A Story to Die For. Jessica travels to Virginia - and into her own family history - in The Last Free Man, where she discovers that she inherited her sleuthing skills from a relative who worked to abolish slavery. And finally, it's off to the Emerald Island in The Celtic Riddle, where Jessica tries to claim an inheritance but faces opposition from a potential killer who's trying to do anything to get the fortune.
Featuring a stellar roster of guest stars, the Murder, She Wrote Movie Collection has fans following the clues and solving the capers yet again!
This past spring we first
reported that a DVD release of
Murder, She Wrote - 4 Movie Collection was in the works, as revealed by
an early listing at Amazon.ca (the Canadian branch). In the months since we posted the info, that entry has shown a variety of release dates which have all been incorrect (including the currently displayed one for late this year). As we
passed along from Universal in mid-September, the title wasn't slated to arrive in stores until 2012.
Today the studio made it official, with Universal Studios Home Entertainment formally announcing that
Murder, She Wrote - 4 Movie Collection is getting a sweetheart of a schedule: the actual date it will be available is
February 14th of the coming year. Price is $26.98 SRP in the USA, and CA$30.99 SRP in Canada. The 2-DVD set contains the 4 previously reported post-series reunion telefilms ("South by Southwest," "A Story to Die For," "The Last Free Man" and "The Celtic Riddle") presented in full frame video, with English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo sound and English subtitles. A 3D look at the packaging is shown below, just under a button link to pre-order the title from Amazon.com (the U.S. branch, which does show the correct street date).
