Several weeks ago we had
the scoop about Universal's plans to release
The Munsters - The Complete Series on DVD. We even had a rumored date for you:
October 7th...a date which was confirmed when the studio formally announced that release this morning.
The cost will be $69.98 SRP for 12
single-sided discs. On them you'll get every episode of the classic series from 1964. You'll also get the features "
Munster, Go Home!" and "
The Munsters' Revenge," which occupy the final disc in the set. Unfortunately they don't seem to be including "
The Munsters' Scary Little Christmas" on this release. However, you will get the following list of bonus material:
- Bonus Episode: Unaired Pilot
- The Munsters "Family Portrait" Episode (Color Version)
- "America's First Family of Fright"
- "Fred Gwynne: More Than a Munster"
- "Yvonne De Carlo: Gilded Lily"
- "Al Lewis: Forever Grandpa"
All of these extras were available in the individual season sets except for the second item, "Family Portrait." Happily, for those fans who already have the separate releases and don't wish to re-buy the entire show again, the studio is making the DVD release of
The Munsters - Family Portrait available separately on the same date, October 7th. That separate release, on a single disc, will have both the colorized version included in the big set, and also the original version of that episode. Cost for that will be $19.98 SRP, running 26 minutes for each version.
We don't have package art yet for either
The Munsters - The Complete Series or
The Munsters - Family Portrait, but stay tuned and we'll bring that to you just as soon as we can!
