If you know anything about the guys over at Shout! Factory (and if you don't, then
read up), then you know that Garson Foos co-founded the company along with his brother Richard and their mutual friend Bob Emmer (all three had been together at Rhino, which started as a record shop founded by Richard). Why do we bring that up? Because Garson himself took the time this past August to
mention a word over in Shout! Factory's official message board about the company's pursuit of the classic sitcom
Mr. Belvedere:
We're very interested in releasing it and we're trying to get the rights. We're in discussions with the rights holder but nothing definite.
That was on August 2nd; further down in that thread Foos posts a follow-up on November 8th saying "
There's a good shot that we'll get it. Should know in the next month or so." We've been keeping an eye on it here, but so far these was nothing definite to report. Until now, that is! Yesterday, in a different thread at Shout! Factory's message boards, DVD producer Brian Ward
posted this exciting news:
Look for Mr. Belvedere sometime in the new year.
Yowser! Score another one for the great guys at Shout! Factory. And kudos to the rights-holders for giving them the license. It's obviously VERY early info; all we know is that they've secured the rights; now they actually have to get the masters and turn them into DVDs, produce a package and bonus materials (if any), etc. That will take a bit of time, obviously. But we'll keep an eye on this, and update you whenever we know more, so stay tuned! Our thanks to every one of our readers who saw the post over there and wrote in to us, including "Chris H." who was first to get his heads-up sent over.
