This past January we brought you
a press release from Arts Alliance America (now renamed as Virgil Films & Entertainment) and Fabulous Films, announcing that they had inked a distribution deal which would kick off with AAA (Virgil) releasing FF's
Mysterious Cities of Gold in the USA
in just two more weeks, on April 7th.
The press release noted that other titles would be coming in 2009, starting with
Monster Squad, starring Fred Grandy of
Love Boat fame. Although Virgil and Fabulous have yet to send us any official announcements for that release, retailers such as
Amazon.com and
DVDEmpire.com have begun listing
Monster Squad - The Complete Collection for pre-order. Each of our retailer sources, as well as the two listings linked to just above, all agree that the release date is
May 12th.
However, it should be noted that
an entry at a blog called "70s Live Kid Vid" says that "
Amazon lists the release date as May 12th, but it looks like the set has been pushed back to June." They don't give the source of their info, though, and I've been unable to confirm any schedule for this release that's different than the one retailers have been provided with. However, if the date does indeed change, this would be a good heads-up about it. Our thanks to reader Paul Calderaio for mentioning it to us.
Retailers also agree that this will be a 2-disc set, running approximately 300 minutes long, and costing $19.95 SRP. This 1976 NBC series is considered a cult classic, and fans have been waiting a long time for it to come to DVD. We don't have box art yet, nor information about bonus material (if any), but stay tuned and we'll bring it to you just as soon as we can!
