The Mod Squad - Rumors of The Mod Squad DVD Release

First Half-Season Set Could Come Later This Year

Posted by David Lambert
Young people in trouble with the law (wealthy Pete stole a car; Linc arrested during Watts riots; Julie ran away from her San Francisco prostitute mother) can avoid jail by infiltrating the counter culture and exposing badguys who prey on other kids.

Tige Andrews ("Capt. Greer"), Michael Cole ("Pete"), Clarence Williams III ("Linc") and Peggy Lipton ("Julie") starred in the hour-long ABC drama The Mod Squad, which ran from 1968 to 1973. During the five season run the show featured a number of past, present and future stars, beginning with an uncredited Harrison Ford in the very first episode! Other names throughout the show's run include guest stars such as Louis Gossett Jr., Yvonne Craig, Joan Van Ark, Dabney Coleman, Sammy Davis Jr., Veronica Cartwright, Tyne Daly, Richard Dreyfuss, Margot Kidder, Ed Asner, David Cassidy, Meg Foster, Vincent Price, Annette O'Toole, Daniel J. Travanti, Rene Auberjonois, Anne Archer, Milton Berle, Brock Peters, Andy Griffith, Stefanie Powers, Richard Pryor, Cesar Romero, Kathleen Freeman, and lots of others!

The studio hasn't issued a formal announcement just yet, but we've gotten word from our inside sources that The Mod Squad: The 1st Season, Volume 1 is probably coming to DVD sometime in 2007. Officially this is still a rumor, and the folks in charge can still change their mind and not put it out. But things are looking pretty good at this point, from what we can tell, so we're passing along the gossip! Besides, a DVD release of his most well-known role would be a fitting tribute to Tige Andrews, who passed away last month. Cross your fingers and hope this moves forward, okay? If it does, we'll bring you the exact date, details, and artwork just as soon as we have them. Stay tuned!
