We called this one
waaaay back in February, when we passed along rumors to our readers that
The Mod Squad: The 1st Season, Volume 1 was in-the-works for a DVD release before the end of 2007. The rumors have just become reality, as CBS/Paramount announces this morning the
December 18th release of that exact title!
Meet Pete, Linc and Julie: The Mod Squad. This trio consisted of rich, long-haired Pete Cochran, Lincoln "Linc" Hayes from the tough streets of inner city Los Angeles, and beautiful flower child Julie Barnes, a runaway from San Francisco. They’re recruited by police captain Adam Greer (Tiger Andrews) for a covert unit that will help bridge the generation gap. Each week these three cops with love beads wrestled with criminals - and their own consciences. They may have been the "fuzz," but they were determined to never compromise their values. They were The Mod Squad!
The studio description just above mention's Tige Andrew's birth name, Tiger (yes, he was named for the animal), but leaves off the rest of the great main cast: Peggy Lipton as "Julie", Clarence Williams III as "Linc" and Michael Cole as "Pete". Lipton, who later had a role in
Twin Peaks, was nominated for the Emmy Award four times for her role in
Mod Squad, and won a Golden Globe for that role. In 1970, the people behind the show (who included Aaron Spelling, Danny Thomas of
Make Room For Daddy fame, and producer Harve Bennett of
The Six Million Dollar Man and the
Star Trek films) were nominated for an Emmy Award for
The Mod Squad as Outstanding Dramatic Series.
Running time on this DVD set is listed as 11 hours 33 minutes, and it's expected to have around 13 hour-long episodes. Video is presented in the original full-frame. We're still waiting on box art, and any other details we can dig up. You dig, man? Stay tuned!
