Earlier this month we reported
on the upcoming VEI (Visual Entertainment Inc.) release of The Mod Squad - The Complete Collection
, which has a street date of November 12th
in Canada and the USA. As we explained in our last write-up, there are two versions of the 39-DVD set, with two different prices, in two different styles of packaging: a lower-cost "slip case" (taking the existing half-season sets and sliding them into a big sleeve), and a higher-cost "gift set" with nicer, more durable outer packaging. Both are pictured below.
VEI has now informed us that the on-disc content for both versions is identical, with no additional extras for the gift set version. The gift set version will contain an extra item packed in with the discs: a Vintage Photo of the Squad. Other than that, though, the sole reason for the higher cost is the nicer (and more expensive) packaging. For that reason, even through both versions are available to retailers in both the USA and Canada, the folks at Amazon.com have opted to only carry the low-cost version (listed on Amazon.com here
). Meanwhile, the folks at Amazon.ca (the Canadian branch) continue to carry both versions (found on Amazon.ca here
HOWEVER, if you're in the States then you can get that better "gift set" packaging (with the Squad photo enclosed) straight from VEI's online store
instead, and even at a lower cost! What's more, they will ship it out a little earlier, on October 28th. That's good to know! Also keep in mind that VEI is based in Canada, and isn't "overnight shipping" their product to Amazon and other U.S.-based retailers, so it may not be on shelves until a little bit after the actual street date (people who have bought VEI product before know what I'm speaking of here). Here's a complete list of the bonus material found in The Complete Collection
, followed by the package art we've already shown you:
- Featurette: Forming the Squad
- Inside "The Teeth of the Barracuda:" 1968
- Friends of The Mod Squad
"Hello, My Name is Julie: The Mod Look"
- Vintage photo of the Squad (gift box set only)
Note from the studio: "VEI did try to acquire rights to the 1979 TV movie
The Return of The Mod Squad. However, due to legal obstacles, it was not attainable.
