Have you ever gone to the store to pick up a CD or DVD and wondered how the label / company decided to go with the packaging? We can tell you that the decision is not always obvious or easy. For The Middleman DVD release, we were presented with a treasure trove of options...
As fans know, July 28th sees Shout! Factory's DVD release of The Middleman - The Complete Series. But you don't have to be a fan of this series to be interested in how the package art came together for that 4-disc set. Anybody who's ever collected packaged media - DVDs, CDs, Blu-rays, VHS tapes, videogames, books, whatever - might check out the cover art and wonder how the publisher came up with that design. Shout! Factory has given us a unique insight into that process with their article "The Evolution of Box Art - The Middleman". It's fascinating enough, including all the key art choices they had to work with, that we thought we should share it with all of you. Enjoy! Here's a reminder of the final version they came up with (and I'm a huge fan of that result, but seeing the genesis of it helps me to respect and delight in it even more):
