Many fans of the original
Miami Vice are waiting for word of the 3rd Season to come to DVD, having picked up the first two seasons of the show that came out in
Feb. 2005 and
Dec. 2005, respectively. Universal hasn't announced that third season set just yet, but this morning they have announced a special offer to tie in with the upcoming
Miami Vice re-make film, directed by TV series creator Michael Mann and starring Colin Farrell as "Crockett" and Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx as "Tubbs."
On
July 25th, just days before the new film hits theaters, Universal will take the two existing season sets and release them together as a bundle for just $59.98 SRP. That's half-off, considering that this is the list price that each of them sold for separately upon their original release! It doesn't look like there will be any packaging or content changes; just the existing sets bundled together either with a "belly band" (back-to-back packaging) or with a folded piece of cardboard on the bottom called a "taco sleeve" (side-by-side packaging).
So, for those of you who haven't dived into the DVDs just yet, there will be no reason to wait once this new bundle hits the shelves. No word on whether or not there will be any "movie cash" coupons included on these sets, but it would not be a shocker to find out on street date that a further movie tie-in like that was packaged in there.
