Miami Vice - New, Improved Street Date! Ride With Vice - Season 2 Before Thanksgiving!

Posted by David Lambert
In mid-August we informed you that retailers had been told to expect Miami Vice - Season 2 in mid-December. We cautioned you at the time that the studio hadn't announced the title yet, though, and that the date might not be fixed in stone.

This morning Universal Studios Home Video made their formal announcement for the 3-DVD set, and gave an even-better street date of November 22nd, just a couple of days before the USA's Thanksgiving holiday (which tends to kick off the holiday shopping season).

Each of the 3 discs will be double-sided, so that the entire package is running 1122 minutes and has a cost of $59.98 SRP. Packaging is similar to last time, with a "digipak" fold-out. Video is 1.33:1 full frame, as originally seen, but audio is once again enhanced to English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround. English and Spanish subtitles are also along for the ride.

There are 22 episodes on board, including the double-length season opener "The Prodigal Son," where Crockett & Tubbs head back to Tubbs' old turf - New York City - in an episode directed by Starsky & Hutch's Paul Michael Glaser. Guest stars in this visit to the Big Apple include Charles S. Dutton, Pam Grier, Penn Jillette, Gene Simmons, and Anthony Heald. The rest of the season sees visits from Eartha Kitt, Little Richard, Cleavant Derricks, Nathan Lane, David Rasche, Jerry Hardin, Dean Stockwell, El DeBarge, Patti D'Arbanville, Gary Cox, G. Gordon Liddy, Phil Collins, Kyra Sedgwick, Ted Nugent, Harvey Fierstein, Frahk Zappa, Dan Hedaya, Hector Mercado, Tommy Chong, Richard Belzer, and John Leguizamo, among others. And there's even a cameo (as a wedding musician!) by Miami Vice music man Jan Hammer!

To top off all this goodness is a bonus featurette, "Ride With Vice," which will be found on the 3rd disc. Box art is not available yet, but we'll bring that to you as soon as the studio gets it to us. Stay tuned!
