On September 24, 2002, one of the most celebrated casts of all time -- including Mary Tyler Moore, Edward Asner, Gavin MacLeod, Ted Knight, Cloris Leachman and Valerie Harper -- reunite as Fox Home Entertainment salutes The Mary Tyler Moore Show Season One on DVD. Co-produced by Asner, his son Matthew, as well as Danny Gold, the collectible four-disc set features all 24 episodes from the debut season of the television phenomenon along with a feature-length documentary on the making of the show, trivia challenge, commentary and much more.
Winner of 29 Emmy® Awards, three Golden Globe® Awards and more, the groundbreaking series premiered on September 19, 1970 on CBS and was one of the most literate, realistic and enduring situation comedies of the 1970s. As Mary Richards, Moore symbolized the independent woman of the time and was surrounded by a top-notch ensemble cast at both the newsroom where she worked and at home. During its seven-season run, the series consistently ranked among television’s top-rated programs.
The Mary Tyler Moore Show nostalgia is sweeping the nation with the "Mary Tyler Moore Reunion" airing on CBS on May 13. The original ensemble cast led by Mary Richards as Mary Tyler Moore is featured on season one and also includes Edward Asner as Lou Grant, Mary’s boss and the producer of the news show; Gavin MacLeod as Murray Slaughter, the quick-witted writer; Ted Knight as Ted Baxter, the dense and self-centred anchorman; Valerie Harper as Mary’s upstairs neighbour and window dresser, Rhoda Morgenstern; and Cloris Leachman as Mary’s high-strung landlady.
The groovy, new DVD set includes "She Turned the World on with Her Smile: The Making of the Mary Tyler Moore Show" documentary, original CBS promos, Emmy Award clips, a trivia challenge and commentary. All of The Mary Tyler Moore Show episodes from season one are compiled on three dual-layered disk and one single disk (full frame, aspect ratio 1.33:1).
