The reunion episode
"Mary & Rhoda", which originally aired in October 2000 and was rebroadcast in 2003, is finally coming to DVD this April.
This reunion started as a pilot for a new sitcom, but neither Mary Tyler Moore nor Valerie Harper wanted to get back into the routine of doing a weekly series again, so it was turned into a movie-of-the-week. Possibly adding to that discouragement was Moore's injury: during shooting, Moore had insisted on doing a stunt involving chasing a dog, and leaping over a barrier to catch the runaway animal. In retrospect, she wished she had taken them up on the offer of the stuntwoman, because she ended up with a broken wrist in the process.
Fox Television Studios licensed this telefilm to Ventura for distribution on DVD, and Ventura orginally announced it for a 12/30/03 release date. It was then delayed, on a "to be decided" basis.
A month ago we started to get hints that this was back on the schedule for an April release, but held off reporting to to await confirmation (and hopefully to bring you cover art at the same time). Well, no art has been made available quite yet, but the DVD IS back on the schedule for
April 20th.
Look for more details about this at our
DVD listing, which we've had up for quite some time (due to the previously announced release that got delayed), and is now completely updated. While this isn't the
Season 2 release that fans are clamoring for - heck, this isn't even coming from Fox themselves! - it IS a taste of MTM that can add to whatever
hopes there are to eventually get that second box set. Stay tuned, because we're still looking for information on that score.
