This past August
we passed along the great news that fans had been waiting for: that Fox Home Entertainment planned to finish releasing
The Mary Tyler Moore Show on DVD, one way or another. Just days afterward, we
followed up on some rumors that the release would occur in the form of a "Complete Series" box set, rather than separate releases for Seasons 5, 6 and 7 (the remaining un-released seasons of the show). The word from Fox at the time was "
We are committed to releasing all three remaining seasons - in what format (individual or full set) remains to be determined."
Well, it looks like their decision has been made! In an early alert to retailers, which fell into our laps today, we've found out that a huge
Mary Tyler Moore boxset with the Complete Series is being planned for release by Fox on
May 5th. The info indicates that there will be more than 20 discs provided in this collection, with all existing bonus material on the previous four season set releases being included. There's no word, however, if any new extras will be found on this release. The cost shown is $179.98 SRP in the USA, and CA$249.98 SRP in Canada. Package art isn't available yet, as the studio hasn't officially made a wide announcement so far for
Mary Tyler Moore Show - The Complete Series. But stay tuned and we'll keep you posted!
Also, fans of the show's star probably won't mind knowing that she's going to have another DVD release on the same date, due to her appearances as the mother of Brooke Shields' character in
Lipstick Jungle - Season 2. Be certain to add that to your shopping list, too!
