The Marvel Superheroes - Could Episodes of the Classic '66 Cartoons Finally Be Heading to DVD?

Coming Soon to Canadian Retailers from Morningstar Entertainment

Recently we reported about Morningstar Entertainment's upcoming (June 10th) release in Canada of The Incredible Hulk - When Monsters Meet. This will be their second DVD version of a previously-released-on-VHS title with Marvel superheroes; the first is their May 6th release of Spider-Man - The Mutant Agenda.

A key difference between those two items is that the Hulk title was part of the old Prism Video "Marvel Comics Video Library", the 5th title in that old VHS line-up of cartoons featuring episodes from old animated series featuring Marvel super-heroes. Now Morningstar has given us word to expect 8 further DVD releases adapted from that old VHS lineup!

Three of the titles will be the 17th, 18th and 20th volumes from that videotape series, all primarily featuring episodes from the 1966 series The Marvel Superheroes. As you may recall, Buena Vista had plans for a USA release in 2005, of a box set with episodes from this classic animated series, but for undisclosed reasons that release was canceled. So these Canadian DVDs will be the only legit way to get any episodes from the show, it seems!

The DVD releases, like the VHS versions, will have bonus episodes from other shows. So the lineups for these three titles are as follows: The Marvel Superheroes - Thor: Enter Hercules DVD will feature the "Enter Hercules" episode as its main feature, and the 1967 Spider-Man episode "Neptune's Nose Cone" as a bonus. The Marvel Superheroes - The Red Skull DVD will feature Captain America in both "The Origin of the Red Skull" and "The Red Skull Lives," and the 1981 Spider-Man episode "Arsenic and Aunt May" as a bonus. The Marvel Superheroes - The Mighty Thor DVD will feature the episode "The Absorbing Man" as its main feature, and the 1967 Spider-Man episode "Spider-Man Meets Skyboy" as a bonus.

Don't forget, these are aimed for sale at Canadian retailers, but will work in any standard DVD player in the USA if you import it. The cost, like on the previously announced Spider-Man and Hulk DVDs, is expected to be CA$14.98 SRP. A release date for these three has not yet been announced, but stay tuned and we'll provide it, and finalized full-sized art, as soon as we can. In the meantime, below you'll see a look at possible cover art for all eight of the as-yet unannounced titles:
