Five years ago the studio had released a pair of best-of discs, and no season sets had been announced just yet. Back then, who would have thought that we would get this far into the show's 11-season run? Sony is preparing an announcement for the DVD release of
Married... with Children - The Complete 9th Season, coming your way on
August 19th. The official studio announce date isn't until next week, but the folks at VideoETA (a site run by the "creative marketing" group at Ingram Entertainment's wholesaler headquarters) have spilled the beans in advance.
The cost is $39.95 SRP for what ought to be 28 episodes, if Sony includes the special 200th episode "Best of Bundy" installment, and another special episode later that year called "My Favorite
Married" (the cast each pick their favorite episodes). Other key episodes to look forward to this season include a "NO MA'AM" two-parter titled "Business Sucks" (featuring Peggy's return to the show after Katey Sagal gave birth for the first time), the hilarious "I Want My
Psycho Dad" two-parter, and yet another two-parter called "Ship Happens", where the Bundy and Darcy clans both set sail on a cruise to the Caribbean.
Juliet Tablak begins a recurring role as "Amber," Marcy's niece (whom Bud begins chasing relentlessly). This would be the last full season with Buck the Dog: early in the 10th season the character would "die" (to allow the aging dog playing him, named Michael, to retire). Buck would be "reincarnated" as Lucky, a cocker spaniel, in the third episode of the tenth season. During the ninth season, many memorable scenes aired, including one (that the show caught flack for from women, but was popular with men) where Al explains to Marcy: "Pretty women make us buy beer, ugly women make us drink beer."
9th Season guest stars (many of them from the world of sports) include Tawny Kitaen, Mary-Pat Green, Alex McLeod, Bubba Smith, Lawrence Taylor, Kenny Stabler, John S. Reynolds, Mike Piazza, Bret Saberhagen, Dave Winfield, Frank Thomas, Danny Tartabull, Joe Morgan, Wolfman Jack, Gilbert Gottfried, Larry Storch, Rusty Schwimmer, Elaine Hendrix, Eric Dane of
Grey's Anatomy and Keri Russell of
Felicity.
This is expected to be a 3-disc set with no extras other than the now-customary pair of "minisodes" (3- to 6-minute extreme edits of Sony-owned television episodes). A retailer friend has sent us an early look at the cover art, but be warned that this may be temp art and could be subject to change:
