Are YOU all signed up to get Shout! Factory's newsletter? They send them out once a month, and after a while they archive them online, at the studio's website. On the right-hand side of most pages at Shout!'s site you can find a box labeled "newsletter sign-up." Last night the January 2010 edition was e-mailed to everybody, and it had a brand-new piece of TV-DVD news on it, that is sure to excite fans of classic television!
    Marcus Welby Knows Best
We've been fortunate enough to release Seasons 1-4 of Father Knows Best, starring a 1950s-era Robert Young, and are now delving into his 1970s follow-up hit, Marcus Welby, M.D. The popular series-the #1 ranker was ABC's first hit-centers on the Santa Monica-based doctor who actually makes house calls. The rock star of a GP shares his practice with the younger and more by-the-book Dr. Kilby, portrayed by James Brolin. Both actors earned Emmys for their roles and went on to play these characters for seven seasons. Look for the first season in a 7-DVD set, which will include the original two-hour pilot movie "A Matter Of Humanities," on May 4.
To recap, Shout! Factory is releasing Marcus Welby, M.D. - Season 1 as a 7-DVD collection (that includes the original double-length pilot telefilm) on May 4th. As mentioned, the ABC-aired classic 1969 show starred Robert Young (Father Knows Best and James Brolin (Hotel). The other cast member to last the entire run of the show was Elena Verdugo (House of Frankenstein) as assistant Consuelo Lopez.

Marcus Welby, M.D. - Season 1Other actresses with recurring roles through the show's seven-season run included Anne Baxter (The Ten Commandments), Sharon Gless (Cagney and Lacey) and Pamela Hensley (Buck Rogers in the 25th Century). In fact, Baxter's character was first seen in the pilot telefilm, along with other familiar faces in the form of Susan Strasberg, Tom Bosley and Larry Linville. Guest stars in the regular episodes of the first season included Susan Clark, Ruta Lee, Butch Patrick, Belinda Montgomery, James Doohan, Barry Williams, Ronne Troup, Robert Guillaume, David Cassidy, Joseph Campanella, Jack Albertson and Vera Miles.

Pricing, package art and extras (if any) have yet to be announced, but stay tuned and we'll update you as soon as we find out anything more! NOTE: the newsletter contained a thumbnail-sized picture of the front cover (subject to change), which we've now included above.
