About a month ago in my TVGuide.com
"DVD Guy" blog I had a post about a number of random things. Near the end of it was my recommendation to read
an excellent story at the Washington Post newspaper, lamenting the fact that
Mannix was not on DVD yet. The story (which mentions the show's popularity here at TVShowsOnDVD; thanks to writer Neely Tucker dropping our name!) talks about efforts to track down info about whether the show would be released, and we'll quote this info from Tucker's story, about info gotten froma Paramount spokesperson:
Spokeswoman Brenda Ciccone finally offered in an e-mail that CBS, yet another branch of the [Viacom] shop, has the rights, and it might issue the show next year.
Tucker will be very happy, then, to hear that Ciccone wasn't joshing around! Or maybe it was the attention the
Post's story brought to
Mannix that tilted things in the detective's favor. In any case, we've received word from our friends in the retail industry that the first season of Mannix's eight years as a TV gumshoe is finally coming to DVD! Yes, we've been told by a source, who spoke on condition of remaining anonymous, that
Mannix - Season 1 has been put on the schedule for release this coming
June 3rd!
No further info is available yet, but stay tuned and we'll keep you filled in. For now, though, savor the thought that you'll be able to enjoy these first 24 episodes this summer, including guest appearances from the likes of Kim Hunter, John Colicos, Joseph Campanella (in a recurring role), singer Neil Diamond, Tom Skerritt, The Buffalo Springfield, Richard Mulligan, Pat Priest, Ann Prentiss, Diana Muldaur, Christopher Knight, Lynda Day George, Army Archerd, Rona Barrett, Karen Black, Dana Elcar, Larry Storch, Grace Lee Whitney, Walter Koenig and many more!
