We've received an anonymous email with some great news - Time Life has licensed
The Man From U.N.C.L.E. from Warner Bros, and will release it in a similar fashion as their fabulous
Get Smart set (
which just won an award).
The set will include all 4 seasons, 105 episodes, in one big set sold via direct-response (TV ads and online). We've also been told that the show won't go to retail until the fall of 2008, giving Time Life approximately a 1 year exclusive window.
I was in LA last week and I overheard talk that
U.N.C.L.E. stars Robert Vaughn (Napoleon Solo) and David McCallum (Illya Kuryakin) are involved in the creation of bonus material, and will tape a joint interview in the next few weeks (
we had a previous news story on this). McCallum has also donated his "home movies, shot on the
U.N.C.L.E. set, for the DVD set. Original UNCLE directors Richard Donner and Joseph Sargent, as well as writer Dan Hargrove are also rumored to be participating in the DVD bonus materials.
This is welcome news to fans who were disappointed when the previously-announced set was canceled due to Anchor Bay not owning the rights to the series. We'll post further details when they become available. Thanks to "NS" for the information.
