Fans of
Mama's Family were more than a little upset to discover the first season contains syndicated episodes. These episodes were trimmed from their original airings and are missing about 3 minutes per episode. We contacted Warner Bros to ask how this could happen, especially given their good track-record for releasing uncut material. They sent us the following statement which is being sent out to people that contact them:
Thank you for interest in Mama's Family: The Complete First Season on DVD. As you may be aware, the episodes featured on the DVD are the syndicated versions. Warner Home Video always strives to provide original content whenever possible, however, in this instance, Warner Bros. does not own the rights to the original uncut episodes. We apologize for any confusion this may have created and we appreciate your continued support of Warner Home Video products.
So, who owns the rights to the uncut episodes produced by Lorimar? According to Warner Bros it's not them.
