Back in September, we
revealed that a new multi-disc box set of
Mad About You episodes was being developed by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (formerly Columbia/Tristar), but that it would *not* be a "Season 3" set. Rather, it is to be a "Collection" release with episodes selected by the stars, Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser.
Today, Sony has officially announced that release, which is called
Mad About You - The Collection. It features 21 episodes, with at least a couple from each of the 7 seasons the show aired. With a running time of 491 minutes, this is spread across 4 DVDs (instead of the three discs which we reported in our last bulletin).
This is described by Sony as "the ultimate collection of the stars' favorite episodes, hand-picked by Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser," and it also features special bonus material with participation from both of those stars. The nature of those extras has not been revealed yet, however. The episodes themselves include the first and last episodes from the series, and many memorable episodes that include great celebrity guest stars, including of course semi-regular Lisa Kudrow as Ursula (twin sister of Kudrow's
Friends character, Phoebe), plus Carl Reiner (playing his
Dick Van Dyke Show role as Alan Brady), Sid Caesar, Estelle Getty, Bruce Willis, Hank Azaria, Cyndi Lauper and more. Here are the disc-by-disc contents:
