Ed Begley Jr. guest-stars as a soldier who cooks better than he shoots. Margaret is accused of being a communist sympathizer. Corporal Radar O'Reilly gets his orders to go home, and Max Klinger must get out of the dresses and learn to carve out his own niche as company clerk in Radar's place. Major Winchester goes on leave to Tokyo and gets drunk, and also gets...well, you'll find out! A seriously wounded soldier needs an aorta transplant, and another soldier - mortally wounded and unable to be saved - can provide the graft, but the clock runs as the buddy of the near-dead soldier fights for his friend's life. Guest nurse Shelly Long puts up with Hawkeye while he swears off booze for a week. In a separate episode, Hawkeye's in charge of the camp when Col. Potter is called away on short notice. Dr. Borelli (played by Robert Alda, father of Alan Alda) returns for a second visit. Psychiatrist Sidney Freedman visits as well. Susan St. James guest stars as a war correspondent that B.J. is seriously tempted to have an affair with. And Klinger, faced with his stressful new responsibilities, tries harder than ever to get out of the Army...one way or the other!
