Reports coming from the "I Love Lucy" fan site, www.lucyfan.com, give us word about the future of the DVDs for this series, from no less a person than Gregg Oppenheimer (son of "Lucy" producer Jess Oppenheimer). Quoted below are the relevant portions of the entire article, that you can read in it's entirety here:
- "Gregg Oppenheimer reports that things are moving right along on the preparation and release of I Love Lucy home videos -- both from Columbia House and Paramount, both as DVDs and VHS tapes.
Arriving October 1 will be Volumes 3 and 4 of Paramount's "I Love Lucy -- Season One" DVD series. These, we want to remind you, are duplicates of Volumes 3 and 4 of the Columbia House mail-order DVD series, with Paramount graphics replacing those of CH.
Gregg tells us that Paramount will continue releasing "Season One" discs separately, but that seasons 2 - 6 will be released as complete boxed sets. But those are still a few years away..."
This is terrific news, as shelf space concerns are prominent when a long-running series like "I Love Lucy" is released a few shows at a time. Perhaps Paramount can look into a production run similar to that used for Star Trek: The Next Generation!
