Yesterday morning we
posted news that the 3rd season of
Lost will come to DVD on
December 11th. We based that date on
Amazon's pre-release sales listing for the 7-disc set, since Disney/Buena Vista still hasn't formally announced it yet. That's even though other ABC hour-long dramas on DVD were made official yesterday...but then again those releases are targeted for release in August and September, roughly three months earlier than
Lost is supposed to hit (since those shows' new seasons will debut earlier).
In our last story, we said to expect a "
DVD-only announcement; don't expect a Blu-ray release of this title (or the other ABC dramas for release this Fall) too soon." The off-the-record info we had gotten from our friends in the industry was that Disney/Buena Vista's efforts for Blu-ray were being concentrated on films at the moment, and that no TV-on-Blu-ray efforts were known to be in-the-works...possibly through the end of the year. Well, it seems that our informant may simply not have heard of what
The Hollywood Reporter found out after talking to Lori MacPherson, the General Manager of North America at Disney's Buena Vista Home Entertainment.
In
the article posted yesterday at HollywoodReporter.com, written by TVShowsOnDVD's old friend Thomas K. Arnold, it was casually said that
"Lost: The Complete Third Season -- The Unexplored Experience" [ships]
Dec. 11 on DVD and Blu-ray Disc. Sounds pretty straight-forward! We've shot a note off to Disney's reps, directly asking for confirmation about this, but did not get a response by our posting deadline.
We'll let you know what we find out, whether by response to our inquiry, by way of a formal studio announcement of the set, by retailer info, or any other way.
Lost, it seems to us (between the special effects, the sunny beach-scapes, and all the other eye-candy), is certainly the ideal choice for a TV-on-Blu-ray release. Stay tuned!
