Ronald Epstein, co-owner of the Home Theater Forum (the onlne DVD discussion website where TVShowsOnDVD was essentially born), has spoken out recently about the future of
Lost In Space, one of his favorite television series. This echoes information we've heard from other sources, but Ron knows the DVD business very well, and in my opinion has worded this in the best way possible to put this in perspective.
We meant to get this report up a few days ago, but we've had some problems with the site and other distractions, so our apologies for the delay. Here's Ron in his own words, taken from
his HTF post:
The latest information that I have received from sources outside of the studio is that Fox is absolutely commited to releasing all 3 seasons of Lost In Space to DVD. This news is for both the United States and UK.
FOX UK is apparantly already working on the SEASON 3 DVD's. Though there is no release date announced there is rumored BONUS material
for the UK Season 3 set -- "Fantasy Worlds Of Irwin Allen" (which was previously released on DVD).
Though none of this news comes directly from Fox the sources I have been receiving information from have been very reliable to date.
Consider this a very strong rumor.
One of our hesitations on reporting this information is that it is so strongly oriented toward Region 2 (Europe) information. Please remember that overseas releases are often different from North American packages, sometimes in very subtle ways. Other times the differences are more obvious: for example, Ron's last communication about
Lost In Space was
this report that the 2nd Season would be split into two halves, and each half would be released in separate DVD box sets in the US and Canada. Fox has confirmed this. However,
Lost In Space - Season 2 has been announced in Europe as a single package for the entire season.
So keep in mind Ron's words that this is a rumor, and also that this report - while it mentions the United States - is heavily geared toward overseas info. Stay tuned, and we'll report back to you as things firm up about both the 2nd and 3rd season releases in Region 1. Thanks to all our readers who e-mailed us on this subject.
