Back in late April, we
reported that Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment was planning a special
Lost - The Complete 5th Season Dharma Initiation Kit release, on both
DVD and high-def
Blu-ray Disc, to be available on
December 8th (along with the regularly-packaged
Lost - The Complete 5th Season DVDs and Blu-rays). Today the studio have provided retailers with a look at that Limited Edition packaging!
Our friends in the retail industry have JUST sent this over to us: the outer packaging (see close-up at bottom), intentionally made to look aged, worn and beaten...like a relic of the Dharma Initiative would appear by the time Oceanic 815 crashed on the island. In the broad "beauty shot" of this set's contents, we see a VHS tape of the "Orientation Video" (which we'll presume actually works), pamphlets, maps, what appears to be patches, and of course the DVDs themselves...which are housed in sleeves that resemble the kind of 5¼" Floppy Diskettes which would be used on the Apple ][+ personal computers of that era (PCs that are used in the show, notably down in the "hatch" of The Swan station).
Note that the pictures are marked that this artwork is "Subject to Change". Package art for this release that's specific to the high-def Blu-ray Disc version is not available yet, but should be very similar. The on-disc content of both the DVD and Blu-ray versions should turn out to be the same as what will be on the regularly-packaged editions of
Lost - The Complete 5th Season: The Journey Back, Expanded Edition...and we're still waiting on ABC/Disney's press release with all the finalized details of that! But stay tuned, and we'll keep you posted. In the meantime, enjoy:
