Earlier today it was revealed that
Lost - The Complete 4th Season: The Expanded Experience is coming home on both DVD and high-definition Blu-ray Disc this
December 9th, not long before the holiday gift-giving season (and also prior to the fifth season broadcast premiere that will happen early in the new year). Full details of these loaded-with-extras packages can be found in Walt Disney Studio Home Entertainment's
official press release, which we posted the complete text of earlier today.
This evening we managed to get ahold of the DVD package art for this release, and boy does it look outstanding! You'll see a baker's dozen of the cast members shown on the front, including the so-called "Oceanic Six" that play a huge part in the plotline for the show's strike-interrupted 4th Season. Behind them are the jungles of their island, and below them reflected in the water is the civilization they want to get back to (many of them, anyway). Blu-ray box art wasn't available yet, but expect to see the same key art used for it.
This is the second straight season of
Lost that will be available on the hi-def Blu-ray Disc format. Many of you are wondering why the first two seasons of the show haven't been scheduled for Blu-ray release? Our good friend Bill Hunt of TheDigitalBits.com, posted a comment about that over at his site today. According to Hunt, "
Industry sources are telling us that BD authoring and replication facilities are packed with work on new release and catalog film titles for the holidays, so older TV product is taking a back seat right now...they'll come eventually, but it's going to take some time." That's certainly in line with what we've heard here, as production facilities for Blu-ray Discs are still trying to ramp up enough to accommodate all the work brought on by Universal and Paramount joining (or re-joining) the ranks of BD-making studios. Don't worry, those separate high-def season sets of the earlier seasons will come sooner or later!
